ASSIGNMENT 1: PREPARING FOR MENTORSHIP
As I prepare for the coming school year and begin my mentorships both at Mountain Lake Church and at CummingLocal.com, I found both the Knowing Your Mentor handout and the First Impressions handout very helpful because in reading and listening to them, I was able to obtain information that could not only assist me in doing my jobs, but also excelling in them. The podcast host talked about gossip at the office and maintaining a safe, arms-length distance away from people who are likely to spread it. She also talked about why first impressions are important, as well as how to make a good one. The handout also helped me get a good sense of how to treat both of my mentors--as I will be working in a much more professional setting than I am accustomed to. Because I have already met both of my mentors, I am excited to move away from these basic tips and pursue a great year.
From my mentorships, I hope to gain the experiences that I need to discover what I want to do in the future, as well as dive deeper in my activity both at the church and from a journalistic standpoint. To make the most of my experiences this year, I will work hard, never say no to an opportunity, and always try to learn new things. This year will prepare me for the future because I will have the opportunity to dive deeper into my passions and my possible career path.
